Hilltop Outdoor Centre - 2020

Day 1

A few excited children and a four hour coach ride later, the coaches erupted with squeals and shrieks as we turned into the car park. The children could see a lot of the equipment waiting to be used during our stay this week. There were high ropes, a bike track and a very tall climbing tower that could be seen.

We started the afternoon with a tour of the centre and we also had a practice fire drill. After this, was the very serious task of being shown how to put on our harnesses ready for the challenges that would approach us this week. We also played trust games including a blindfolded trail through the woods

After an hour or so of getting used to the accommodation and surroundings, we had a session with our course directors. This session included the centre’s rules and also the timetable for the week. We learned it was a 7.30  start each morning for breakfast and that we had to tidy up and clean the dining room ourselves. We also had to clean up after the teachers!

We had dinner and then it was time for our evening activity. The activity was called Next Stop. It was an orienteering game that was outside in the dark - all children are accounted for, so were all the adults - unfortunately!

After the activity, we had one final meet up before bedtime. We learned about this prehistoric creature turning 155 today - Miss Cheeseman!  We sang Happy Birthday and went off to bed.
