Music at Plumcroft
Music is central to our ethos at Plumcroft School – all children have access to curriculum music and instrumental learning is available in both KS1 and KS2, with progression routes in place - to school band and choir and to the Royal Greenwich Music Centre ensembles. We have been designated a Music Mark school by Royal Greenwich Music Hub.
Children are encouraged to sing through regular singing assemblies and choirs are open to all children. Instrumental lessons are available to all, particularly in Year 4 where children learn for free for a whole year and are then encouraged to continue. We run an excellent school band who regularly perform at school and outside of school for example at the Music for Youth Festival on the Southbank.
Each year group will see performances by professional musicians, both in school and at high profile venues, such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra Schools Concerts at the Southbank and Barbican Hall.
Our Performing Arts Concert takes place each May and provides a showcase for the talent we have at Plumcroft.
We have a musician in residence, jazz trumpeter Byron Wallen who will give performances and workshops at Plumcroft, inspiring our pupils to take part in creative music-making.
