Year 2

Spring Term:

Literacy:

In literacy this term, pupils will be learning:

 

-To write a report about seasons in the UK;

-To write fact files about the polar regions and rainforests;

-To role play and write a diary entry from the point of view of one of the animals in ‘The Highway Rat’.

The pupils will also be learning about Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole and how to protect our environment. 

 

 

Topic:

 

In science pupils will be learning about habitats, animal adaptation and healthy living. In geography they will be learning about our environment and how to protect it.

 

Music:

 

This term, pupils will be continuing to participate in weekly music sessions led by the ‘Boppin’ Bunnies’ team.

 

Maths:

This term, pupils will be continuing to use the strategies for addition, subtraction,multiplication and division.

The pupils will be learning:

 

-  to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes;

- to read scales (mm, cm, ml, l, g, kg and degrees Celsius);

-  to understand and identify positional and directional language (left, right, quarter turn,

three quarter turn, half turn, full turn, anti-clockwise, clockwise),

 

The pupils will continue to learn their times tables, so please practise these with your child. Listed below are some resources to support you:

The pupils will also start to learn the 3 and 4 times tables, so please practise these at home.

  

PE:

 

This term in PE, year 2 pupils will be disco dancing and learning to play football.

 

Your child will need to continue wearing the following kit which should be kept in school throughout this half term: light blue t-shirt, black shorts and plimsolls or trainers.

 

PE days are as follows:

 

2C – Monday afternoon

2M- Tuesday morning

2N - Wednesday afternoon

 

Please read with your child daily and ensure s/he brings the book back to school in a book bag, in order to complete a quiz. Also, practise spellings in preparation for a test every Friday.
