Year 4

Spring Term

In Topic this term, Year 4 will be learning about Music. We are expecting to learn about Gamelan music and will be participating in various workshops. In the second part of the term, they will be learning about Inventions. We will be looking at different inventors and their impact on our world today.

You can help by…

*Asking your child to discuss what they have learnt in Topic.

*Reading books on myOn about different adventurers.

*Research using books and websites.

In Science this term, Year 4 will be investigating Sound. Later in the term, we will be learning about Electricity. The children will participate in various experiments where they will be asked to work collaboratively and use scientific vocabulary.

You can help by…

*Asking your child what they have been learning about and reading up on these using myON, science books and websites.

*Encouraging your child to demonstrate any practical investigations that we have explored in the classroom.

*Watching and discussing, as a family, science and nature documentaries on TV.

In Maths this term, Year 4 will continue to practise the four operations and explore word problems, shape, space and statistics. We will develop mental maths strategies in class.

The children will also apply this knowledge to real-life problems.

Please ensure that your child regularly practises their times tables with a focus on 6x, 7x and 8x and how these facts link to division.

Every child has a Mathletics username and login. These should be used regularly.

You can help by…

*Asking your child what methods and facts they have learned in maths and encouraging them to demonstrate these to you.

*Practising quick-fire multiplication tables and the associated division facts e.g. 4 x 3 = 12, so 3 x 4 = 12, 12 ÷ 3 = 4 and 12 ÷ 4 = 3

*Helping your child online to explore Mathletics using their logins. Again, revise the learning that has been recently covered rather than trying to explore new topics.
